Q: Who are we?
A: We are a grassroots movement. |
"Grassroots" is such a buzzword in the political lexicon, but rarely does the label truly apply. It does here. The OKC Flag Project is a loosely-organized group of like-minded Oklahoma City citizens. Our goal is simple: design a flag befitting of our great city.

The current Oklahoma City flag is the City seal on a white field. While it incorporates great color and meaningful imagery, the seal is unrecognizable from afar, leading the flag to look like a red and blue circle on a white field.
Q: Why should you care?
Q: What can we do?

Design matters. It can both create identity and bring people together. Oklahoma City is one of the largest cities by area in the country. Its neighborhoods and districts are united by one thing: a common pride in the residents' home city. And there has never been more pride in this city than there is now. Everywhere you look, there are OKC Thunder logos on bumper stickers, decals, license plates, flags, and hats. The same is true for OKC-branded merchandise for the Energy and Dodgers. The Wheeler District is planning OKC public art on the Oklahoma Riverfront. Walk into any boutique in the Plaza District, the Paseo, or Midtown and you'll see dozens of designs evoking Oklahoma and OKC pride. The demand is there. Imagine the collective talent of all those designers culminating in one simple, attractive, recognizable symbol for our great city. Oklahoma City is uniquely-situated to harness the new-found pride in this city and unite its residents through quality, meaningful design.
Let's utilize the power of the internet and solicit designs right here at home and from far and wide. Once our submissions hit critical mass, we'll petition the City to hear our argument for a new flag and submit the designs received here.
